translation needed

My ancestors lived in a cottage called

CELLAN DDU

in 1841.  By 1851 it was call garn cottage.  I presume garn, translates to 'cairn'.  I know ddu is 'black', but what does CELLAN mean

i don't know if this will help but there is a parish of CELLAN just 3 miles outside of lampeter, cardigan, what it translates into i do not know.                                                           kali.

From my fading memory of Welsh I think cellan is a small space, a hidey-hole.

Tried 'cellan' at a similar site, which came up with no matches, which was the reason for my request.

However, have tried the site you indicated and it came up with the word 'locule'. Looked that word up in my dictionary and couldn't find that - so I am still none the wiser

Hi there,

Hack is the nearest............"cell" is a small space such as a cell,closet,chamber,hence the burial site Bryn Celli Ddu.

The word "cellan" is probably a regional variation on the language,which is not uncommon.

Hack seems to have sorted that out pretty quickly - thank you all for your help. 

Rather a strange name for the cottage.  I would think there must be a cairn at or near there, I will get the map out and see if I can find anything.
