Edis SMITH born Thurlby on Bourne
« on: Thursday 19 January 06 08:28 GMT (UK) »
Hullo from Queensland, Australia.    Could some kind person get me Family information on my G Grandfather Edis SMITH who was born at Thurlby on Bourne, Lincolnshire, on 28 February 1827. ?    I have a thought that the Family may be included in the 1841 UK Census for that area.    Also I would dearly like to hear from any person who may be researching that particular family.

Thanking you all, in anticipation, Jim

Thank you very much for that information Geoffrey.   To your knowledge is there any way I may find out where he spent the Census night.?    I believe that his Grandfather was also named Edis, married to Mary ****, at Thurlby on Bourne. (Not known when though)

Hullo Susi,

What a lovely surprise I had when I received your information.   I've also got stacks of information on the whole family soooo let's compare notes.

He was my Great Grandfather.

Regards and thanks for your interest.

Jim

Hello Suzi, Jim and others,
I have just started my family journey and Edis Smith is my great-great grandfather.
I would love to connect and find out more if possible.
My family is also from South Australia and my grandfather was Victor Edis James Steer born Apr 19 1894  Magill, South Australia, Australia.
As the Edis name is throughout the generations I was wondering where it name came from?
I have just discovered it came from marriage into the Smith family when Elizabeth Edis (born circa 1738) married William Smith (born circa 1734) on 19th April 1759 at Thurlby by Bourne, Lincolnshire, England.
It would be lovely to connect more dots.
Thank you
Sharon

Regarding Edin in the censuses, in 1851 he was a policeman in Besbro Place, St John the Evangelist, Westminster, London, transcribed as Edin, born 1827 in Thurlby.

In 1861, he was in Town Street, Thurlby, transcribed as Edie.
