« on: Thursday 19 January 06 13:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi.

Looking for Joseph Bowsher b. abt 1785  East Garston on the 1841 census.
Believe I have him on the 1851 as a widower.
Any help appreciated.

Hi.
Thanks for your help.

It seems strange that he is on the 1851 after his wife died in 1850, yet on the 1841 his wife Elizabeth is shown with the children but not him.
Must visit East Garston one day. Can you recommend a good pub.

Many thanks

east garston is a tiny village, with a population of around 500.

There are only 2 roads, front street and back street, 3 if you count humphreys lane.

The pub is the queens arms and is popular with racing folk, since it is in the heart of race horse country.

a good website about the village is at www.east-garston.com

it has plenty of info and links to the village.

Berkshire FHS also has documents relating to East Garston.

Hi again.

Thanks for the info. I must remember to wear my jodphurs  when I go to the pub.
The Bowshers of Lambourne do not seem to be a problem as I found a site with all the births since the begining of time, almost.
Any Bowshers still in the village.????
