Things to do in Cardiff for kids
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 03:03 GMT (UK) »
We're planning to take a trip to Cardiff and South Wales for a week of research and relaxation and we were wondering if there are any "kid friendly" attractions around Cardiff to keep my wife and 3 year old busy while I'm off searching the graveyards and library.

Anyone familiar enough with the area and our situation to know what I'm talking about?

A couple of possibilities:
Techniquest
Cardiff Castle

I'm not sure if the castle will be enough to entertain the 3 year old, but Techniquest does have attractions for kids of all ages.

There are also a number of Cinemas in Queen Street (the main shopping street) that might do the trick.

While you are here, try to allocate time to visit St Fagans: The National History Museum. It is well worth visiting.

Good luck!

You might try The Cardiff Tourist Information Office - jeeps knows why they are so difficult to find on the net but I found this much info for you

Cardiff Visitor Centre
16 Wood Street, Cardiff, CF10 1ES. Tel: 029 2022 7281

and a couple of others which may be better on

'Tis a wonderful place, hope you enjoy

I found this link that might help
http://www.visitcardiff.com/To-See--Do.html

are you restricted to Cardiff, I'm sure if the car is available there is an awful lot more to see, I remember when we were there doing some research (but only for the day!) I saw signs for Castles, and Mine Attractions that may be interesting.  One tip that I always tried to do was to have a base with a pool or leisure facilities, the children always liked that!
I hope you have a really good time, leisure wise and in your research.

I took my grandchildren to Cardiff Bay, Atlantic Wharf/Mermaid Quay at the weekend and they loved it...the eldest, age nine, said  'Thanks nan...it's like being on holiday'.

Defo worth a look...enjoy!

Thanks for all the great advice. It doesn't look like I'll have problems keeping the family busy. My daughter's pretty easy to please anyhow - a puddle to splash in, the odd toy store to browse...
