Beverley Workhouse

Does anyone know if it's possible to see any records of inmates in the workhouse?  I have the census returns, which shows that some of my ancestors were in the workhouse.  One gave birth there and another died there.  I'd be interested to know if any records are available that would show when they entered and how long they stayed and what their circumstances were.  Is it possible?

Thanks

Shonagh

Hi Shonagh

http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/   has quite a bit of info and pictures of Beverley Workhouse

According to the site the East Riding of Yorkshire Archives Service holdings include Guardians' minute books (1836-1930 with large gaps)

http://www.riponmuseums.co.uk/html/museums.html  also has some more info.

Sarah :)

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Davies/Griffiths/Smith/Woodward/Goodwin/Morrlle/Moralee - Flintshire

Moralee (and variants) - Durham

Thank you.  It's all rather sad isn't it!
