A place called Auburn?
« on: Monday 23 January 06 17:54 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help identify a placename in Wiltshire.  On the 1851, 1861 & 1871 the Where Born is recorded as Auburn, Wiltshire.  I can't find a place of that name and wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

The closest I have got is Aldbourne.

Many thanks

Many thanks for responses.

The person I'm researching was living in Chingford, Essex during the census and she was quite consistent with her age and place of birth.  All I know so far is her married name of Elizabeth Cox born 1809.

I shall start investigating Aughton & Aldbourne for her marriage to a Thomas Cox.  Her children all appear to show Chingford as their place of birth so it may be that she left her parish before her marriage took place.
