Middlemore children = Rose Price
« on: Wednesday 25 January 06 18:59 GMT (UK) »
My Aunt Rose was sent to Canada with her two sisters, Florence and Ethel on

PRICE , Rose
Age:   5
Sex:   F
Year of arrival:   1908
Microfilm reel:   T-503
Ship:   SS Carthaginian
Port of departure:   Liverpool
Departure Date:   16 May 1908
Port of arrival:   Halifax
Arrival Date:   28 May 1908
Party:   Middlemore's
Destination:   Halifax NS

When there she went to live with a Mrs Allen Lewis and was later christened Edna Lewis.    In 1918 when she was just 13 she married an Alva Edison Wingate.

Alva died in Halifax in 1920 but I have no further news of Rose.   Mrs Allen said that Alva and Rose were going to New York to spend their married life, but I have not been able to find her on any of the indexes.

I have been able to trace Ethel and Florence right up until they died.

If anyone can help with this I would be very grateful.

Hi Karen

Yes, Rose Price was my father's sister.    When she arrived in Canada she was placed with Mrs Allan Lewis who later had her confirmed as Edna Lewis.

However, when she married Alva Wingate, Mrs Lewis who in previous reports to Middlemore had called her Edna, wrote that the child Rose Price was married.    That does make it sound as if there had been a falling out of some sort.

 New Brunswick-Northumberland-18 Hardwicke Parish
I see from the 1911 that Lewis and Anna were older.  If the young couple had
children (Wingate) perhaps a story will emerge. This bunch will do their best to
help find some offspring if there are any...!
It was lovely that the couple wanted her....perhaps young Rose merely
rebelled when she found out she already had a name. If children were
told they were adopted, it was often later in life.

Might be grasping at straws, but this person's father had the same name...
Alva Edison... so worth a look, anyway....

I just want to thank the person who gave me the name of James Spencer Wingate who was searching for Alva Edison Wingate.

I immediately wrote to him, my postmaster said the message wasn't sent, but it was.    James is my cousin - Rose Price's son.

I am now so thrilled that I have found another first cousin.

Thank you very much indeed.
