Need help to start!

Is there anywhere to start tracing irish ancestors online?  Don't know if its northern or republic.  All family pre 1920.   I know my gg granparents got married in 1920 and then moved to dumfries then onto Dundee.  Carswell and McNamara, just don't know where to start looking?

Thanks for replying.  I am just assuming they were born in ireland because I can't find them on scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

What I have is Francis Carswell born approx 1894 - died in dundee, he was married to Mary Reilly born 1898/99 before moving to dumfries area.  Francis's parents were Peter Carswell (shop assitant & died before 1949), Elizabeth McNamara (i think died in 1931).   Mary's parents were James Reilly and Mary Barrett (both died before 1920) all in ireland I think.

Any help would be very much appreciated
