Melbury Abbas Burials - Mary & James Miles
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 01:01 GMT (UK) »
From the online parish clerks I have found burial details (Bishop's Transcript) for some of my family
viz
Melbury Abbas BURIALS  1731-1880
1858;    27-Jun;    Mary;    MILES;    Melbury Abbas;    74
1865;    01-Jun;    James;    MILES;    Shaftesbury;    87

James was living with a son in Shaftesbury after the death of his wife, so presumably he was returned to be buried near his wife.

Would they have been buried in the local churchyard? Would anyone know if a grave exists, or how I could find out?

thanks

Trish

I just realised I have two other burials there, I think they are the parents of James Miles

Mary MILES 64 yrs buried 04-Mar 1811  -  so born c. 1747
1815; 16-Oct; Thomas; MILES; Melbury Abbas ; 82 - so born c. 1733

Hi
The Dorset Family History Society have an index of monumental inscriptions which may be of help to you in finding out whether these people are buried in the Churchyard .  You can contact them via this link http://www.dorsetfhs.org.uk/

Hi Muddy

Many thanks - it's a bit tricky when they say "Payment by stirling cheque only" when you live in Australia - I shall maybe send some cash - think I have a few pounds somewhere.
