Hi,
Can anyone out there shine some light on Joseph Spankie, a farmer, cattleman & powerloam weaver  born abt. 1811 in RESCOBIE, former MONTROSE/FORFAR, who married Clementina Low 7th Feb 1836 in Forfar, Angus?
I'm at a brick wall here and cannot find his parents names, since I only have a marriage entry for him.
JOSEPH SPANKIE married CLEMENTINA LOW on 7 FEB 1836 at FORFAR, ANGUS.
The Forfar 1841 census shows his wife Clementina, and their 3 children Margaret, Jane and John but no Joseph.
Joseph shows up in 1863 on Clementina’s death cert as witness
He appears on the 1891 Census,Dundee St Mary's, aged 80, living with his daughter MARGARET ROBB , who is married to DAVID ROBB.
Perhaps a death certificate would reveal his parents names? Does anyone have a death entry for him?
Best regards,
Julia
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm.

He cannot have been born in both Rescobie and Montrose, because Rescobie and Montrose are both parishes in the county of Angus (Forfarshire) and therefore mutually exclusive. Forfar itself is another parish. Forfar and Rescobie are next door to one another, but Montrose doesn't have a mutual bounday with either Forfar or Rescobie.

The 1841 census doesn't specify the parish of birth.
In 1851 he was living in Forfar, and said that he was born in Rescobie.
In 1861 he was living in Aberlemno, and said that he was born in Rescobie.
In 1871 he was living in Murroes, and said that he was born in Rescobie.
In 1881 he was living in Tannadice, and said that he was born in Rescobie.
In 1891 he was living in Dundee, and his parish of birth is listed as Montrose. This must therefore have been an error on the part of his son-in-law who was head of the household.

So I think it is safe to conclude that he was born in Rescobie, Angus (or Forfarshire) but not in either the parish of Montrose or the parish of Forfar. However the record of his baptism does not seem to have survived.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
