cooks - wisbech
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 22:31 GMT (UK) »
census shy ancestors not appearing on 1851, 1861, or 1871 census. Trying to locate John William Cook (born approx 1823 Norfolk- married Eliza Royal) and his children John William jr, George Frederick (or vice versa), and Charles Henry  all born Wisbech. Has anybody come across these, and know where they were hiding until 1881???

Cheers and thanks

As far as I know  John William jr born about 1855, George Fred a bit older - perhaps 1852,and Charles Henry was almost certainly born 1859.

Many thanks for your help and interest

Sorry if I'm preaching to the converted, but don't forget to look in Norfolk as well.

My family (BREEZE) came from Upwell and Wisbech and sometimes they appeared in the Norfolk census, and sometimes in Cambridge.  Same with certificates.

Two useful sites, one for Norfolk:
The Norfolk Transcription Archives at
http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/index.php
and
Wisbech and the Fenlands
http://contueor.com/wisbech/

Had a quick look, didn't find anyone familiar, but once you start getting more connections, the sites could be useful.

Good hunting,
Bob

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions.
John William Snr was a tailor, and so I think that must be our family - again grateful thanks for filling in the gaps for me - now we can start looking for certificates!!

Regards
Sadietoo
