Oh..I do despair!!
« on: Tuesday 31 January 06 01:06 GMT (UK) »
..of trying to find my Irish ancestry...so little info. and so few records!
But now for the good news, after 5 years trying and a lot of monetary expense, I've finally located my great grandfathers death record...and it will probably take at least another 10 years to find a birth record lol...and as for his wife, my great grandmother, I know she lived, I know she died, but have come to the conclusion she just couldn't have been born!!

Please can some kind person tell me if the 1901 Irish census records place of birth?

Many thanks

yes seren,1901 census does record birth place,
as long as you don't have my problem,i.e.
my grandfather lived in dublin but he would have put his place of birth as just 'wales' because you only said an exact place if you were born in ireland, and you say despair,i know the feeling.
                                                                     regards ,anne ::)

p.s. by birth place i mean perhaps a county of birth,
not an address.

Seren:
The 1901 Census will give the county of birth only.

Many thanks for the info. Taid  and Pat.  In the case of my great grandfather a county would help..it narrows  the field lol, but I know I 'm looking for a needle in a haystack looking for a Daly in Ireland!
My great grandmother doesn't have such a common surname but I already know she was from County Tyrone..somewhere!!
I'll have to have a search done of the Dublin address where they lived in 1901.

Taid, I notice your family did the reverse trip to mine...they left Dublin in 1901 and eventually ended up here in Wales.

My Dublin grandmother eventually ended up in Swansea..but this was via Somerset in the 1930's when her train driver husband was transferred to work on the Swansea to Paddington line.
Though I live 60 miles up the road now, I'm from Swansea and most of my family still live there.

echoes there of my g'dad owens sister who returned
to wales and married a man who worked on the railways
and he was killed while working there, she then
remarried at some point and had several children.
her single name was owens but don't know what either of her married names were.her first names were elizabeth anne known as lillie
to her family ,she had a falling out with her owens family which is why
i know very little about her.so if you come across any owens
rellies i would be very interested.
                                                      regards anne

Will keep a look out for your Owens...but probably as many of them in Wales as my Daly's in Ireland.

Well, very good news today. Just received an email from my researcher to say he has located my great grandmother's birth record.  After all these years of searching, not only has she  finally been found, but I now also have the names of her parents, her siblings and where in Tyrone the family are from....this must be my best genealogical find ever!!
