'Maide' and 'Demaide', also 'Delamaide' seem to be around in France.  What time period are you looking at? Is this someone who moved to the UK?

I am looking around 1885, which is when Mary maria De Maide was born, she died in 1920 aged 35.
She married my ancestor James Allen in 1913, and they had a child who died aged 10 months.
James was from Pontypridd, and this was where they were married, however I can find no records for her.
I wondered if she was french

Do you have the marriage certificate?  You might have more luck trying to track her father, if you know his name and occupation - or was he deceased? Any clues from the witnesses?

There is one De Maide in freebmd - a death of Charlotte De Maide in 1895 in Kent.  Scattered numbers of 'Maide' about.  With names containing 'de' you often have a problem in England of the spelling changing - de Maide, Demaide, Maide, d'Maide, etc, depending on how it is registered/indexed.

Unfortunately i don't have the cert.
The nameonly came to light yesterday morning.
I have spoke to Anthony at treorchy library who has just told me there was some around in the electoral data in 1919, 1920 and 1939. The spelling is different. I reckon it will be one of them.
