Just seen this one, I have most of the Rifle Brigade Medal Rolls and found your man on page B.1964 of WO329/1719.
Sergeant Albert Victor Gray was in the 11th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade and was commissioned on 28/8/17. If you would like to find any further details I will find the 1915-15 Star Roll for you to see if it gives any more information. Drop me a PM with your e mail address on and I will send you a copy of his Medal Roll entries, unfortunately it does not give any indication of the Regiment he was commissioned into.

Angela,
If he was commissioned into another Regiment in 1917 it would seem likely that he served in Egypt and Palestine with that Regiment and not the Rifle Brigade.

Angela,
Found his 1914-15 Star Roll on Page B.409 of WO329/2821 which gives us a little more information. He landed in France on 21/7/15 which was the date the 11th Battalion landed in France so he appears on the original roll of the 11th Battalion.
Little more on the 11th Battalion for you.
11th (Service) Battalion, The Rifle Brigade.
Formed at Winchester in September 1914 as a K2 Battalion, to Blackdown in the 59th Infantry Brigade, 20th Division.
February to Whitley. April 1915 to Hamilton Camp near Stonehenge.
21/7/15 landed at Boulogne.

His number of S/3165 is a New Army number, these ranged from S/1 to S/38107. I should be able to give you a good idea of his enlistment date when I have checked a couple more rolls for you, failing that his officers papers might well be at kew, probably in the WO339 series of documents.

Angela,
Copies of the medal rolls sent to you. Looking at the Silver War Badge rolls which give enlistment date I have found that the numbers surrounding your relations number enlisted on either the 8th, 9th or 10th of September 1914 so it looks like he enlisted on one of these days.
