You need to (get someone to) look him up in the indexes in New Register House in Edinburgh. There are links to lists of professional searchers on the SP web site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you,
This message was put in by my mother in law, it is her brothers father.
We will be in Glasgow in May, can she look it up in the Mitchell Library? Or anywhere else in Glasgow?

Thanks

Hi there,

If he died before 1956, you will be able to look it up online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, which operates on a pay-per-view basis.

If he died in 1956 or later, you will have to go to Edinburgh to look for it (there is a 50 year limit for the death records online).

The Mitchell Library in Glasgow does not hold statutory Birth, Marriage or Death records - these are all stored in Edinburgh.  They do have Old Parish Registers (records from before 1855) and census records for the West of Scotland.

Cheers,
