Hi there,

Glasgow City Council would be the council to contact at

Cemeteries & Crematoria  Registrar
20 Trongate
Glasgow
G1 5ES

Phone:0141 287 3961
E-mail: land(at)glasgow.gov.uk  (replace (at) with @).

However, I believe that they will charge to do the search.

Cheers,

Doreen

Does it say on the Death Certificate the usual address of the Deceased'?

I think the address that you have given is for the Southern General Hospital & they would probably have had patients from further away than just Govan.

Youre right Caroline

It was the Southern General Hospital (or Merryflats to the oldtimers in Govan)and patients would come from Linthouse,Ibrox, Cessnock, Hillington, Crookston, Cardonald as well as further afield such as Paisley and Renfrew. At that point some of the big housing schemes like Pollok had not been built.

Doreen, are there no old letters, postcards or photos which might give a clue to where they lived?

Hi Doreen
The current address for the Southern General is 1345 Govan Road Glasgow G51 4TF.  As far as I know, all their old patient records are held by the Greater Glasgow Health Board Archive (email gghb[AT]archives.gla.ac.uk) - but don't expect a speedy response! Also, patient records are sealed for seventy five years, so they might not be able to tell you anything anyway but it is worth a try. I live quite near there so will try to have a look for the cemetery if I get a chance; can you let me know your grandparents' names as I might be able to get a photo. Just started a new job though, so might be a week or so until I get a chance!
Hope this helps,
Anna

Thank you for all your replies. Doreen is my mum in law, I will forward on you messages, and get the correct dates of her grandparents deaths.
And post here tonight.

Thank you.

Hi Pettsy!

Will take a note of the names and see what I can do; it might be a week or so before I get a chance to go looking, but if the graves are there I should be able to get a photo. I'll let you know as soon as I can.

Hi Anna,
Thank you.   ;)
No hurry. We will all be visiting in May, so it would be great to know which cemetery they are buried in.
