Tannagh, Armagh, FERGUSON
« on: Thursday 02 February 06 17:48 GMT (UK) »

OK! I really am in unchartered teritory here :-\

Today I received my husbands 2xGreat Grandfathers Army Record from National Archives.

On his attestation paper he claims to have been born in Ipswich, Suffolk, trade Weaver.
He signed up in Norwich Norfolk in 1826 aged 18yrs 10months.

1851 census both he and his wife one Mary Medcalf claim to have been born in Norwich - early searches in Norfolk drew a blank. Here he says age 43.

Now I see from his Pension and Discharge papers dated January 1847 he says he was born Tannagh, Armagh ??? and was 47 years of age.
There is no mention of wife or children but there is enough evidence to make me think I have the right man.

Their marriage probably took place in Woolwich, they have a daughter Mary born c1833 in Woolwich.

Now? where do I begin? do I have a cat in wotsits chance of finding out any more about this man!
How did he come to be in Suffolk if he was Irish? etc etc...

Any thoughts or ideas welcomed
