Currie family, Alexander/Annie Corfu
« on: Thursday 02 February 06 19:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am trying to locate the upbringing of an ancestor, Annie Maria Currie.  She was born on Corfu, Greece to Alexander Currie and his wife (name unknown) while Alexander was stationed there with his regiment.  The approximate birthdate for Annie is 1858 or so.

I have conflicting information regarding Alexander's birth, either that he possibly was born in Ireland or Canada.  However, Annie definitely grew up on IOM, so my conjecture is that her mother was from there.  Also, Annie's first husband was William Kewin(Keown?) Corrin, probably from IOM although they married (1879) and lived in Liverpool.

Does anyone have information regarding this family?  I am hoping that they show up in either a 1861 or 1871 census or somesuch.

Thanks! ???

Hi,

There's one family in the 1871 IOM census that may be of interest (or may be stretching things a bit). Could Maria be Annie Maria?

It is set out in a confusing way, but I think this is what it says:

1871
15 North Quay, Douglas, IOM

Elizabeth Muncaster1812, Andreas, Isle of Man, Head
Scott Muncaster, c1853, Douglas, Isle of Man, Son, stone mason
James Wood, c1846, Douglas, Isle of Man, Son-in-law
Ellen Wood, c1850, Douglas, Isle of Man, Daughter
Alexander Wood, c1870, England   Grandson
Alexander Wood, c1850, Isle of Man, Lodger, stone mason
Alexander Curry, c1830, Isle of Man, Lodger, pensioner
Ann Curry, c1835, Isle of Man, Lodger’s wife
Maria Curry, c1858, Isle of Man, Lodger
Margaret Curry, c1870, Isle of Man, Lodger

Cheers,

ROs
