Hi Pete,
I've had a look and I think Charles is 24 and Thomas is 22...but that first "2" in Thomas's age is a tricky one.  Jan might have better luck trying to translate it. Have you looked in 1861 to see what the ages are?
Cheers

Afraid we're not helping much so far - I thought Charles 34, Thomas 32 ;D
Prue's idea of finding them on another census sounds best idea.
Cheers Jan ;)

Hi all,

Many thanks for your time and effort, in looking up the ages of Thomas and Charles, the dates seem to fit,  Thomas was my gg grandfather b ab 1830 Cound, I have them on every census, from 61 on, so I bought the 51 census of Shropshire, found them but could not read the ages hence the request, on the 51 census it gives Thomases Parents as George 59 a/g lab, of Cound,
Sarah 59  of Cound, Every census gives georges birthplece as Cound, however try as I might, I cant find a George born in Cound in the given period,
This is my Brick wall, this is what I have found (although not proved )
Cound parish records.
12/march/1808 George Edwards & Sarah Rowe mar.
21/dec/1788  Sarah d of Thomas & margret rowe bap.

A kind reader done me a look up for Cound on the 41 census,

page 6 ho107/910/5
John     Edwards        14       man servant            born in county
Charles  Edwards       13      man servant            born in county
( for John Griffiths-farmer )

Coundmoor, page 19

George     Edwards  50        ag/lab                     born in county
Sarah       Edwards  50                                       born in county
THOMAS  EDWARDS  13       ag/lab                     born in county
Mary         Edwards  20                                       born in county
Margret?  Rowe        80                                      born in county

Do you think in 41 they took in the old mother of Sarah?

The only birth I can find for George is,

Uffington par rec
24/dec/1786 George s of  James Edwards & Jane, bap

Should I follow this line? or am I barking up the wrong tree ( pardon the pun )

Again thank you all,
Pete.

Hi Pete
A few thoughts
The appearance of Margret Rowe with George and Sarah in 41 adds weight to you having the right baptism (and right marriage) for Sarah as does their having a son Thomas. If you can find a death for Margret her death certificate might well have Sarah of George as informant.
Re George. Assuming Uffington is near Cound it would be worth further investigating. George gives his birthplace as Cound in 51 so probably grew up there. Can you find deathes in Cound for his possible parents?
Also George and Sarah married in 1808 so there must be other children older than Mary - have you found any more? If there is a James or Jane amongst them that would make it more likely that you have the right George.

Cheers Jan ;)

Hi Jan,

Much thanks for the info, being a bit green to the hobby, I would never of thought of looking for the deaths, ( do they do death certificates that long ago? )

Kind regards,
Pete.
