Hi

I live in Brynmawr. it was always in Breconshire until the boundary changes and is now in blaenau Gwent. The Newport Library carries all the BMD records and census details but if you know the names dates of birth/marrigae/deaths etc you can get info from Tredegar registry office. The parish was Llanelly but some come under Aberystruth. Hope that helps

Hi,

My wife comes from Brynmawr and her family has been there since before 1841 so I have had a look at the copies of Censuses I have.

It was always in Breconshire up until the 1970's when it became Blainau Gwent. For the 1841  thru' to 1891 Censuses it was Llanelly Civil Parish and in the 1901 Census it is Brynmawr Civil Parish.

Confusion may be caused by the fact that it is right on the County boundary. People often moved to Nantyglo (Aberystruth Parish, in Monmouthshire) as its virtually contiguous. I've found the best guide to exactly where the County Boundary runs between the two is the Alan Godfrey map "Brynmawr 1915".

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I went through the same agony about five years ago

Brynmawr straddled two counties and three parishes
as follows:

Lanelly and Langattock parishes (Breconshire)
and
Aberystruth parish (Monmouthshire)

I think you will still find a post marking the point where they all met
