Gilbraith
« on: Saturday 04 February 06 20:36 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information on Robert Gilbraith b c1794 Ponteland and Isabella Reddie b Stannington c1792.
They may have married in Ponteland c1816 but i don't know which church (possibly Catholic).

I would appreciate any details from the 1841 & 1851 Census if possible. He may have died before the 1861.
Thank you,
CB.

Thank you very much Jennifer.
Armed with the family information you have supplied anf more importantly the marriage date, i can start to research their parents.
Do you no if the church is Catholic, there are no other Catholics in the family. This may be a clue that they originated from Scotland.
Thanks,
Chris Bell.

No, this is the Anglican Parish Church of Ponteland.

I expect you've got Robert & Eleanor's Baptisms from the IGI, but if not these look like them:

Robert, 5 October 1794   at Ponteland, son of George & Jane Gilbraith.

Isabella , 4 November 1792  at  Stannington, daughter of Geo. & Eleanor Reddie

I can never seem to find the answers i need on the IGI, but it is something i will start to master now i am getting back past 1837.
I did know the baptism date of Robert and Isabella, but was not sure of the parents, hence the need for their marriage date and Church.
Anyway, i can now research George and Jane.
Thank you for your time spent on this search Jennifer,
regards,
Chris.

Robert Gilbraith was my great great great grandfather - via Jane Gilbraith and Mary Isabel Ramshaw, and the information in this (now rather old) trail is consistent with my own understanding. Does anyone out there have a similar direct connection?
