Revaluation Books
« on: Monday 06 February 06 15:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Has anyone out there consulted the Revaluation Books of the Griffith Valuation. According to a genealogy booklet that I read, they are supposed to show information concerning change in the occupier and immediate lessor from 1848 to 1929. Is it difficult to find a particular entry? What sort of cost is involved? Was it worth the effort?
Is the Valuation office still located at 6 Ely Place, Dublin?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
The Valuation Office site above, and the John Grenham site above that should give you what you need to know.
I haven't consulted the books myself yet, but you might be able to order them via local Family History Libraries.
Also, in Ireland, they can be found at some Local Studies depts in public libraries (such as co.Tipperary).

Cheers,
Mags

Hi Mags,

I hope I was looking for the right title for the Revaluation books of Griffith's Valuation. I tried http://www.ni-libraries.net and the Linenhall Library catalogue http://www.linenhall.com I was surprised that I could not find them. I wonder, would they be available at PRONI or the library at Queen's University, Belfast  ???

Best Wishes,

Chris

Hi again Chris,
According to Grenham, any extant surveyors' books from the valuation, and Cancelled Land Books, for Northern Ireland, would be at PRONI; I don't find the Proni site particularly easy to wade through, and wasn't able to find out any more.
There is a Valuation and Lands Office in Belfast, google for it is best way to get to it .
Sorry not of much help on this one.

Thanks for the reply Mags.
I will ask at PRONI when I pay them a visit.

All the Best, Chris
