Hi Rachel,

We need a few clues! Could you spell out what you know so far and what information you are after?

Cheers,

Ros

Certainly can.

I have started with my husbands immediate family:

His Parents are Michael WH Shawcross born in 1956 and his mother is Anne G Moores.

Michael WH Shawcross's parents are Bert Shawcross and Doreen Grainge - they married in 1953 (September).  Thanks to Elaine who I think is also on this site, she has managed to find out that Doreen had a brother who sadly died in 1932.

Moving on from there again we have a Walter Shawcross (1905) who wed a Phyllis Brooks (1927) and they had 5 siblings I think....

Then I have a James Shawcross born in 1875 in Urmston whose father I think was called Thomas Shawcross born in 1850 in Gorston and his mother (James) was Mary Ann Rose born in 1852 in the same place....

From all the notes I have made this is the sense I have made of them, or at least got my head around....

Hi Rachel !
Found you x

Until Walter's birth certificate is purchased, we don't know who his father or Mother is - we believe his Father is James Shawcross b 1875 in Urmston .. if  it is, then James's father is John Shawcross b 1837 (1881 census has him as a Lampwick Manufacturer) and Mary Royle.   As always, the main problem is that there are SOOOO many John & James Shawcross's it's a real headache ! without buying the certificates to verify.  The information I obtained is from a descendent, and it's his research material that I have provided.

John Shawcross b 1837 is the son of James Shawcross b 1797 and  Ann (possibly) Prescote.

Walter b 1905
Frank b 1909
Lucy b 1901
William b 1903
Sydney b 1904  .... all believed to be children of James Shawcross.

Hope this helps.

Elaine ;-)

When you recieve the cert Rachel, give me the details ..... I can take you back through the census's properly then and see if we can connect you to the Shallcross Pedigree's.

It's always good to use other people's information as a guide for research, but the only way to do it is to verify your finding's with cert's along the way ... or like me, you could end up going up the wrong branch !   Ouch !
