Cemetery in Ahade, Co. Carlow
« on: Tuesday 07 February 06 22:13 GMT (UK) »
I believe my grandfather is buried within the Townland of Ahade, which I understand is close to Ballon.

Could a Carlow native please tell me if there is any municipal cemetery in this Townland, and if so what is its name?

If not, then he must be buried within a churchyard. Again, I would be grateful if anyone could name any RC churches in the Townland.

Thanks in anticipation...
Leofric

Sorry I'm not a Carlow native... but you could check out these graveyards on www.internment.net:

Best of luck.  Kind regards, Karen

Karen,

thank you for your reply - I've already looked at those sites, which alas have nothing for Ahade.

Sorry Leofric...

I found a map of the parishes  of Carlow c 1851 - if you click on this link and scroll down you will see Aghade (no2) - it shows its location on the map .....  I make it out to be to the right of Ballon (no6) ... you may already know this but just thought I'd post it anyway:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlcar2/valuations.htm

There are also some more inscriptions for Carlow graves on this website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlcar2/inscriptons.htm

This link outlines a couple of inscriptions from outside and inside Aghade Church :

Maybe this site might turn up something for you.  Kind regards, Karen

Karen,

Thank you again for those links. The Carlow website is very interesting and I often return to it to see if there are updates. My grandfather's death was rather later than one usually sees on these websites - probably late 1940s or early 1950s.

One day I hope to come and see for myself.

regards
Leofric

Seanmac,

Thank you for giving me that lead; they'll be bound to know, I'd have thought.

Hi Leofric,
No problem.
Headstone records are a terrific choice for tracing families as many records were lost in 1922, and I have started putting some records that I transcribed on my website and I find the interest from abroad outstanding. Also people are interested in the photo's as they give a good picture of Laois.
Regards,
Jack
