St Giles's Church Wrexham
« on: Wednesday 08 February 06 18:39 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody have access to burial records for St Giles's Church in Wrexham?

I have ancestors from Wrexham in 1800s but don't know where they were buried.

Would appreciate some help or advice.

Thanks

Well the first thing I can say Erika,is that this message should have been posted whee you placed the earlier message as Wrexham is in Dembighshire. However some names and dates would also have been very helpful to would be helpers like myself!

William

Sorry to have posted in wrong county but Wrexham is mentioned in both counties on Rootschat.

Also the death certificate I was reading at the time of posting said that Wrexham was in the Counties of Denbigh and Flint.

Sorry for all the confusion, seems like it could be either!

The names I have are
William Owen  death yet to be confirmed
Frances Owen ( his wife) 23/07/1852

Thank you

Yes Erica this can be a very confusing business at times.I have tried to see whether I could see your Frances Owen,at least in the 1851 Census, but to no avail.Where would she have been living then?I looked on Ancestry for the Death of a William Owen in the Wrexham area, and found one in 1844,and one in 1852.Just a wild thought are your Owen family related to one from the Ellesmere area of Shropshire?

William

Thank you.
The Frances Owen I have died in 1852 and was in the 1851 census as Owens living at York St in Wrexham.
Her husband William was recorded in 1851 in England and Wales census. He was in Dudleston with his son Richard, licensee of the Three Pigeons Inn.
William was a stay maker and the business was in Wrexham. A business which continued through the generations.
William was my gt.gt.gt. grandfather.
I am stuck with his death though. I think the one you found in 1852 was the one I posted on the Denbighshire board.
I found a death on Ancestry yesterday for Mar 1864 Wrexham, but can't find him in 1861 census.

I think there is a connection to Shropshire as William was born in Loppington and his offspring in Dudleston.
Getting more difficult to confirm these events now the back I go.
Thank you for your interest.

I think there may be a connection between your Owen Family, and one I am currently in contact with on Genes Reunited, and also have a descendant in my Tree,a Mavis Owens born in Cefn mawr in c 1933.The furthest they go back with their Owen family is to a Thomas Owen born in Shropshire in c 1805.This Family was also based in Dudleston in the latter half of the 1800's.
