    An old map of the area shows Dan-y-twyn (a variant of Dantwyn; it means "beneath the hill") as something looking remarkably like a farm.

Hi,
   Answering my own query - Dantwyn (as they now call it) is a farm and still functioning after some 500 years. It's a short walk from the centre of Pontardulais.

Powell - Jones

Obviously this is not the same man
but the mention of Powell in some of the posts got me wondering if there could be a family connection here somewhere.

Thomas Morgan Jones
born about 1836 Glamorganshire Wales to Mary & David Jones
married 1854 Wales to

Margaret Powell
born 1837 Glamorganshire Wales to Mary (nee Davies) and James Powell.

Children of Margaret and Thomas are
James Jones born 1857 Wales
Mary Jane Jones born 1858 Wales

They sailed to Australia in 1859 on the Ship Marco Polo
also on the voyage was Mary Jones aged 22, possibly Thomas' sister, but I am not sure.

2 more children were born to Margaret and Thomas in Australia

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

As you say, not the same man. When I first started checking out my TMJ I discovered another one, a grocer in Neath, and thought this could be the guy you're looking for. But my notes have him as marrying a Mary Ann Lewis in 1862, so that's him out of the frame as well, I'm afraid.

Have you posted separately for your family?

You are more likely to get a response and since they do not appear to be linked to Gareth's it makes more sense.

Make sure you state exactly what info you are searching for (and what you already have to avoid duplication).  Bear in mind that the names MORGAN and JONES are about the most "popular" in Wales, with POWELL not far behind!!
