Surnames Kyle, Glass and McAdoo
« on: Friday 10 February 06 00:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,
I was told my family (Kyle) was from County Down, but I'm not sure this is correct. Is there anyone out there that is related to the Kyles (Lord and Lady, daughter, Mary is all I know)? I was told they had a castle, but I'm not sure this is correct. Also, Billie Glass and Sam McAdoo are people/families I'm interested in. Thank you so much.

Sorry, I'm new to this. I should've been more specific. I've been told Lord & Lady Kyle lived in Clair Castle (not sure this is correct) in County Down. They had a daughter named Mary who ran off to marry Billie Glass. They also had a daughter named Mary who married Sam McAdoo. Their daughter, Annie McAdoo was born March 8, 1899 supposedly at Collinstown. Sam, Mary and Annie arrived at New Orleans, Louisiana on the ship "Charlie Chandler". Once again..sorry, I'm new at this.
Thanks,
April

Hello April,

1839 is the only date you mention here. I hope you have no objection to my providing a rough time scale which may benefit others who may assist you.
Working back from 1839
About 1810-15 Mary Glass and Sam McAdoo born
About 1790-1800 Mary Kyle and Billie Glass were born
About 1760-70 Lord and Lady Kyle were born

Kyle Family Society
This site contains a list of Notable Kyles.
It surprises me that a Lord and Lady do not appear on this list.
www.kylesociety.org/Kyle_NameHistory.htm

There are at least eight places named Collinstown in Ireland -
Three in Co. Dublin, two in Co. Kildare and three in Co. Westmeath.

There are some Kyle papers at PRONI
http://www.proni.gov.uk/records/USING/privatek.htm

I would expect Lord and Lady Kyle to be mentioned in one of these two books.
Burke's landed gentry
Burke's Peerage, baronetage & knightage

Best Wishes, Christopher

Hello Christopher,
Thank you soooo much!!  I made a slight error, though. She was born March 8, 1839.  Roops...sorry.  I'll still look at those sights.
Once again, thank you so much!
Have a wonderful day,
April

I found something!  Sorry...got a little excited there. It said Annie McAdoo was born March 8, 1839 in Collins Town, Addman Church (didn't give a county), Ireland.     ;D
I don't know if Collins Town is supposed to be one or two words, but it's a start.

Hello April.

What is the something you have found? A birth certificate? Could you post it onto the board so we may have a look.? You may not know how to do this. That is OK. Post a message at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,47.0.html saying you would like to post a message on the Clare  board and someone there will advise you how to post it here. I am not too happy with Addman Church. It does not sound right for Ireland.

Good Luck, Chris

Sean Ruad's IreAtlas lists three places named Collinstown ...

three in Dublin, two in Kildare and one in Westmeath.
