I did write the book 'Swansea Pals - the History of the 14th (Service) Battalion, the Welsh Regiment, in the Great War' (Pen & Sword Books 2004) so I do look out for any mention of 'the lads' and am always happy to help and receive more info.

Was really excited to find reference to Robert John Folland on the internet. I've researched his family tree back to 1640 since he is my wife's grand uncle. I'm desperate to find a photograph of RJF. Can anyone help? He made such a sacrifice I would like a copy of his photograph to go on the gallery at Thiepvel memorial, Somme. have you been there Ronoin? Well worth a visit. RJF's name is inscribed along with all the others who died with no known grave. There are living relatives of RJF still living in Swansea.

The above link takes you to Pte. Folland's page on my Swansea Battalion website. I'd be happy to add any other information you have about him.

Robert John Folland's widow married my great grandfather, Josiah Jones. He brought into the marriage five children, although only ONE was living with him at the time: Sam. Together, he and his new wife had a son Thomas.

I haven't got a lot of information about this part of my family from 1921 onwards, but I would be happy to answer any questions if I can.
