HI Mike,

Bethesda was built about 1800, that is why there are no other records. have you looked at the Parish Records for St David's Church, llanwrtyd, there are Winstones there. I saw them when I went to Powys Archives to check my Joneses.

I wrote down one or two, here they are,

Burial: Richard Winstone 9 Aug 1755
           Catherine W. 5 June 1763
Christenings: Elinor, illegit. dau. of William Winstone 21 Aug 1777
Burial: Julia Winston Waters, maesderwen, llangammarch aged 56 17 April 1894
Victor Wynston Waters, Address as above, 3months, 20 Aug 1895

There were more than these but I was on a time limit and decided to concentrate on my family surnames.

You need to go up to Llandrindod to check them out and also double check my dates listed above!!

happy Christmas,

Cochiaid

Thanks for your postings  I contacted Powys Archives to check how far back their records went for St David's Church, Llanwrtyd Wells .According to there website the only Parish Register for Llanwrtyd Wells christenings starts in 1748.Richard Rhys Winston was born in 1743.
Osprey said at that time, marriages would have taken place in the established church wherever they worshipped (unless Quaker or Jewish). So does that mean that Richard Rhys Winston could have been christened there, but their records don稚 go back that far.

I need to clarify what I said. Marriages had to be in the establsihed church from Hardwicke's Marriage Act of 1754 until civil registration in 1837. Before 1754, you might only find the names of the couple and the date of the marriage. I thought you were referring to the parents of the sons born 1792 and 1773.

The church is older than the date its records begin so it does look like there are missing registers. Marriages would have taken place in the bride's parish more than likely. It might be worth trying neighbouring parishes like Llanfihangel Abergwesyn where the records go back to 1730. Records for Llanddewi Abergwesyn (another neighbouring parish) for 1738 - 1813 are not in the Powys records, but at NLW and Cardiff Central Library.
Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)
Yorks: Airey, Bowler, Elliott, Hare, Hewitt, Kellett, Kemp, Stephenson, Tebb

Hi Mike,

According to Powys Archives site, micro filmed copies of Llanddewi Abergwesyn Parish Records are at Powys Archives.
