Amy Fairy b 1835 (perhaps this was 1836 after her parents' marriage?)

As there are no Amy's born 1835 +/- 1 in either Hunts or Hants in 1851 it must be a possibility. Particularly as I couldn't see any Anns of anything like the right age in Catworth in 1841, just Amy.

Ann Dickens was Amy's and Charles' mother? If so I think she was a bit older than you have her down as. In 1871 she was 65 b Gt Catworth, and in 1861 it was probably 55 although the second figure is largely obscured. In 1841 she was 35 William 25.  Catworth parish registers have neither been filmed by the LDS nor are they available as a transcript from Hunts FHS so the record office is the only place.

The same applies to Amy's marriage - the other option is to shell out £7 for the certificate. Whilst the chances are that it took place in Gt Catworth it could have been anywhere in the registration district.

Thomas Fairy - I can't see him in any census after 1861. If you haven't found him either I think you should be looking for a death rather than a marriage!

More after lunch

Hi Sunshine
You have hit on my conumdrum!
William & Ann Fairey had 5 sons;
1. Joseph  1838-1852
2. Thomas Dickens 1840 married Hannah Linnell 1865? had one daughter Hannah in 1867. By 1880 he is remarried and in Canada.
3. Henry  1843 married Esther Eliza Fisher in Ellington in 1874
4. John 1846 is aged 14 in 1861 a labourer in Little Catworth
5. Charles 1846

In 1871 I have Charles 1848 living with his parents William & Ann in Stow purportedly unmarried.

With them are Henry 1843 who married Esther Eliza Fisher in Ellington in 1874. He is unmarried. Mary A & 2 young children.

Joseph is dead, Thomas Dickens is married to Hannah, Henry is single, Charles is single and John has disappeared!

John MIGHT have married Mary Ann Winser Dec Qtr 1867 which I have just found on Free BMD and that would explain the 1871 census. There is a death for a John Fairey aged 17 in 1870 but I had stored it away as it was the wrong age and he seemed very young to have married and had 2 kids. And, from memory, it is not stated that Mary A was a widow on the census!

Charles, I thought, "owned" Ma(r)y A, son's wife from Brington? and the 2 young children on the 1871 census.
On reflection though I think I willl stick with Charles 1848 simply  marrying the girl (almost) next door in the  1871 census ie Susan James and going to Leics where disaster struck them and he remarried to Emma.

Thanks for your help & interest
Marlene

However they could be the children of John 1846 I suppose?

Hi
Amy Fairey is on the 1841 census with her "parents" William & Ann Fairey aged 6 but I discovered the marriage of Amy Pashler to Charles Bosworth in 1852 in Gt Staughton on the LDS.

It is a member submission and I'll swear it used to read Amy Fairey because I didn't know about the Pashler name until recently as you know! I reckon someone else is revising their info as well!

This branch of the family has caused me more angst than the other 2000 out together!

So I reckon Ann Dickens/Pashler had an affair that produced Amy either with Willliam or with another after the death of her first husband and before she married William! Whatever -  Amy adopted the Fairey name in 1841 and 1851 and used her the Pashler name for her marriage!

Now I am turning into a very withered old pumpkin and heading for the sack!
Thanks for all your help. It sure clarifies one's thinking to have someone else sharpen the thought processes!
