Hi Sunshine
You have hit on my conumdrum!
William & Ann Fairey had 5 sons;
1. Joseph 1838-1852
2. Thomas Dickens 1840 married Hannah Linnell 1865? had one daughter Hannah in 1867. By 1880 he is remarried and in Canada.
3. Henry 1843 married Esther Eliza Fisher in Ellington in 1874
4. John 1846 is aged 14 in 1861 a labourer in Little Catworth
5. Charles 1846
In 1871 I have Charles 1848 living with his parents William & Ann in Stow purportedly unmarried.
With them are Henry 1843 who married Esther Eliza Fisher in Ellington in 1874. He is unmarried. Mary A & 2 young children.
Joseph is dead, Thomas Dickens is married to Hannah, Henry is single, Charles is single and John has disappeared!
John MIGHT have married Mary Ann Winser Dec Qtr 1867 which I have just found on Free BMD and that would explain the 1871 census. There is a death for a John Fairey aged 17 in 1870 but I had stored it away as it was the wrong age and he seemed very young to have married and had 2 kids. And, from memory, it is not stated that Mary A was a widow on the census!
Charles, I thought, "owned" Ma(r)y A, son's wife from Brington? and the 2 young children on the 1871 census.
On reflection though I think I willl stick with Charles 1848 simply marrying the girl (almost) next door in the 1871 census ie Susan James and going to Leics where disaster struck them and he remarried to Emma.
Thanks for your help & interest
Marlene
However they could be the children of John 1846 I suppose?
