Hello Richard

Just Brilliant!!

You've taken me one generation back and more in one fell swoop.

Thank you so much for all your help. It's all so fascinating isn't it.

I'll have to take my time and sort it all out.

Thanks again

Hi again Beryla,

Just a bit more information.

It appears that both Thomas and Ann Woodward may have been dead by 1851 as I cannot find them on the census for that year.  That may explain why James and George were living with their elder brother in 1851.

I cannot find Maria either, but, as she would have been 27 by 1851, she had probably married.

Valentine was married and appears on the 1851 Census living in the household of his in-laws, John and Mary Thompson at Church Gresley, with his wife Elizabeth (nee Thompson) and 1 month old baby James.  He was a Brickmaker.

Thomas Woodward had married Ann(e) Peace at Church Gresley on 23rd September 1816.

The bmd index is now searchable, for free, at www.ancestry.co.uk if you wish to check out the deaths of Thomas and Ann Woodward.

Hope this fills in few gaps.

Regards,

Richard

Hello, first ever post here on this board.

I have been researching a branch of mine - the Woodwards of Egginton, Derbyshire for a while and came across this post. Would Egginton and Church Gresley be close enough for the Thomas and Ann(e) to be the same as mine?

Thomas Woodward m. Ann (Unknown) b. 1782, d. 28 Oct 1818 Egginton, Derbys.

Children:

i. Robert Woodward b. 1815, Egginton, d. 1881, Egginton.
ii. Mary Woodward b. 1817, Egginton, d. 28 Oct 1818, Egginton.

Note: The daughter and mother tragically dying the same day (and not in childbirth)

Robert married Sarah Madeley in 1843 (d. 1852) and Martha Smith in 1871.

Hello Dadyddh,

I wish I could help, but I don't think these are the same family as mine, although the villages are quite close aren't they.

I've since found out that

'my' Thomas W. was b.1792 and d. 1843 m. Ann Peace 1796-1842, so the dates don't fit do they., but good luck with your search.

Keep up with your postings on this site as I've had lots of help from lots of friendly people

Good Luck

Okay, cheers - I sort of realised that after I had posted but no worries good to know there are others researching Woodward in Derbyshire. I wish Egginton parish was as well documented as Church Gresley though!

Yes, if only it was that easy. Still that's half the fun.

Should I come across any 'Eggington' Woodwards I'll let you know.
