BRADFORD CENSUS: Geoghegan 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 ...
« on: Monday 27 September 04 10:28 BST (UK) »
My ancestor Patrick Geoghegan (born Mount Mellick, queens County, westmeath, Ireland 1829/30, died Bradford 1906) emigrated to Yorkshire in about 1846/7 to end up in Bradford.

He  should be visible on the 1851 Census for Bradford, but I have looked up the records, including about 30 mis-spellings and drawn a blank.

As he was only 21 in 1851, he was probably lodging with someone else - maybe an elder sibling, or a cousin/uncle etc.

In 1855 he married Julia Delaney in Bradford and started a family, whose dececendants still live in Bradford.

So why can't I find him (or any relatives known to me) on the 1851 or 1861 Census ?

Any clues or help gratefully accepted.  I am close enough to Bradford Library to follow any clues or help you can give me.

I don't know that Bradford Library has the full range of publications from the local history Society.
Have you been able to refer to the surname indexes from 1861, and the searchable 1851 transcript CD (pdf format)?
