Kirsty - I only live about a mile away from the archives, and it is more or less on my way into town, so it's easy to call in and look something up when I'm passing. But I won't be going in again for a while as the kids are on half-term now!  (And one of them has an extra few days off after half-term while building work is done on the school.)  So I thought it was best to do the lookup straight away.  While I was there I found one of mine too! 
I can't think of anything I need looking up in the US at the moment, but if I ever get my German line back past Germany to the USA where one of them supposedly came from (I think, one of my ancestors emigrated from Germany to the USA then his descendants moved back again) I'll keep your offer in mind!
