1841 Census Lookup Request Please For George Rossiter

Hi Alli & Good Morning,

It's certainly a difficult case. I checked out the George Rossiter, son of Robert & Catherine and he was  christened in Child Okeford so that probably rules him out.

Assuming you are right about Jane being married previously is it possible to find:-

a) George living as a singleton  in 1841
b) A marriage involving Jane Beale or one involving a Mr Beale who married a Jane born in the right year.
c) A marriage involving George Rossiter to someone else i.e. George & Jane were both married to someone else previously

What do you think?

it was betsey janes mother i thought might have been married before.unfortunately i cannot find a marriage anywhere.

I hope I'm not duplicating things here but, as I understand it, you are still seeking an 1841 census entry for George Rossiter and family.

I believe that I have found the family set out by allibaker as living in Sherborne at the time of the 1851 Census, but who were residing in Somerset ten years earlier.  I am not sure whether you have ruled the 1851 entry out or in for your family tree.  James, Mary, Richard, George and James Rossiter were all present and in common. 

Anyway, here are the details:-

1841 Census

West End, Scruton, Somerset.

James Rossiter - 35 - Wheelwright - y.

Mary Rossiter - 35 - y.

Jane Rossiter - 14 - y.

Israel Rossiter - 10 - y.

Richard Rossiter - 8 - y.

George Rossiter - 6 - n.

Alfred Rossiter - 3 - n.

James Rossiter - 1 - y.

Reference:  HO107 / 0934 / f.3-45 / p.9

'y.' denotes born in county i.e. Somerset and 'n.' denotes born outside county.  Therefore, George and Alfred were born outside Somerset (Dorset maybe?) whilst the rest were Somerset born.

The 1851 Census entries set out above by allibaker for the George Rossiter family do not record the places of birth, so I'll note them here as they tie in with the 1841 Census details pretty well.  They also seem to tie in the George Rossiter recorded in the 1841 and 1851 censuses with the later ones (Sherborne consistently being his birthplace - 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 at least).

James Rossiter - b. Evercreech, Somerset
Mary Rossiter - b. Bruton, Somerset
Richard Rossiter - b. Bruton, Somerset
George Rossiter - b. Sherborne, Dorset
James Rossiter - b. Bruton, Somerset
Henry Rossiter - b. Sherborne, Dorset.
