A 'DSC Medal' Problem!
« on: Friday 17 February 06 15:30 GMT (UK) »
My GGrandfather was awarded the DSC in WW1. He was Captain of a merchant ship that sank a U-Boat, quite an achievement when they weren't really armed.

The problem: my uncle (now deceased)either sold it or gave it away to fund a drink problem.

What are the chances of me ever finding it or getting it back?
Where would I look?
Where they engraved with the recipients name?

Any help or thoughts on this problem greatfully received

i'm sure there's a site for this as well, but i've no knowledge of it

try a post on the great war forum in the uniform arms medals section, you never know, there's a lot of collectors there as well

If it is the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC), these were issued unnamed.
If it the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), this was issued named.

If they were issued un-named I haven't really got much hope, unless I'm able to purchase one  :-\  expensive option anyway thanks for your help.

Hi Libby,
a genuine one will, as you say, be expensive.  Have you considered getting a museum quality replica?  Cost is £31.00.

What was your GGrandfather's name?

Good luck
