Herbert BATTERICK
« on: Friday 17 February 06 16:04 GMT (UK) »
Herbert batterick(or variations!)-born in Dorset , England around 1841 emigrated to Labrador between 1858 and 1866 - he married a Canadian lady whilst there - she was called Dorcas and was born around 1840 in Newfoundland, Houber, Grace. They had a daughter Ann born in Labrador in 1866 and a son John also born in Labrador in 1868 before returning to resettle in Dorset England in 1870/71 - their next child was christened in Dorset in Nov 1871.
Can anyone trace any record of these folks whilst in canada - trace the marriage maybe or the birth of Ann or John?
Any help really appreciated! I am coming across several variations on the spelling of Batterick so flexibility is needed!

Hello

not much help but I believe that you should be looking for an area called Harbour (Harbor) Grace, Newfoundland

here is a link to some info about it

if I think of anything else I will let you know

Thank you Thelma - I do not have much to go on as whilst dorcas is listed as being born in Harbour Grace, the two children are simply listed as being born in Labrador! However, all help is really appreciated! I have scanned the link you gave me and cannot find any trace of the batterick name or even parents called Herbert and Dorcas. Any other ideas??

I was looking at Soldiers of WW1 and there were a few Battricks (no 'E') who died in this war. They were from Newfoundland. One was a Herbert - perhaps your Herberts son.

Just put in the last name of Battrick and nothing else.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I havn't found anything on Herbert yet, but I did find a death for Nathanial Batterick, born Dorset, England in 1813 who died in Midland, Ontario June 3, 1905.  Could he be one your Batterick's?

On the 1851, there is a Dorcas Ellison, age 7...Missisquoi County, Dunham

and a Dorcas Creller age 6 Missisquoi County, Stanbridge...

Thelma or Karen...which is in the right vicinity, do you know? Both records say, Lab/Nfld.

I'll post the actual images from Collections Canada...J.J.
