1891 Census George Gibson - COMPLETED WITH MANY THANKS TO DOWNUNDER
« on: Sunday 19 February 06 01:56 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please do a lookup on 1891 census for George Gibson born 1862 Market Weighton.  I have him unmarried aged 19 on 1881 census, a shepherd at South Cliff and by 1901 he seems to have married, has 4 children and is living in York, two of the children being born in South Cliffe.  Details from 1891 census would be much appreciated.

With many thanks.

Hi Pam

Many thanks for your reply.  You surprised me on this one.  On 1901 he is married to Jane and there is no record of a daughter Mary E.  As Jane is the same age as Mary J (both nine years older than George) I think they must be the same person and that the daughter must have died.  Further sleuthing on my part required!

Many thanks again for the information.

Best wishes.

Hello 1901

daughter Elizabeth could be the Mary E from the 1891 census mother and daughter could be using second names same ages.

Hi Pam

Thank you for that.  Never crossed my mind about Mary E and Elizabeth (too many late nights!!).  I did find a marriage of a George Gibson and a Jane Roydhouse on freebmd in Dec qtr 1881 and also birth of Jane Roydhouse in 1852 which maker her the right age.  I suppose if genealogy was easy we would get bored but sometimes I just wish they would use the same name throughout - ah well!!
