Adoptions
« on: Sunday 19 February 06 14:35 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know whether it's possible to find out whether someone was legally adopted, without applying for an adoption certificate if it isn't certain one exists?  A good friend of mine has just discovered he has a half brother, who he has always thought was his cousin - turns out that this "cousin"  was adopted by my friend's aunt after his mum gave birth out of wedlock.

He is just trying to find out a bit more about it, without being insensitive - I think all the people concerned are on pretty good terms so he may be able to find out more from the person himself - but he knew I was interested in tracing the family history and I said I would ask on here!

Any help appreciated.
