Reserve Regiment

I have just found out that my g grandfather was in the 3rd Royal Northern Reserve Regiment. In the 1901 census he was at Talavera Barracks in Aldershot.He was a private in the Infantry and he was aged 44. I don't know anything about the army!! Where do I go from here?
