Kermode, Daniel b. 1837-1840 Miner

John Kermode may be a brother.

He was a shareholder and gold mine manager in NZ in 1866 and a John Kermode was also shown as a shareholder.

Daniel may have emigrated to Australia on the Blue Jacket 1860. Then moved on to NZ in 1863.

The marriage and death certificates do not record details of mother and father given names.  The death certificate in 1916 shows IOM as birth place, age as 76 years and time in NZ as 50 years and that his father was a carpenter.

I had earlier posted this in the General IOM area, but attracted no responses so it is a duplicate

I could find no entry for Daniel aged 14 in 1851 in the 1861 census for IOM.

The shot in the dark may be worthwhile. 

You show no age for Daniel in 1851.  The evidence here, seems to indicate DOB was c. 1840, three times, rather more than 1837, once. So his age would have been 10 or so in 1851.
Can you confirm the age of Daniel?

DANIEL was 14 in the 1851 census.   Looking on IGI he appears to be son of Daniel Kermode and Eleanor Kermode christened DEC 1836, Lonan

Daniel and Eleanor married 2 JAN 1836 in Lonan.  Other children to the marriage being:
SARAH ELLEANOR KERMODE - 27 JUN 1841 Lonan [odd this one doesn't match census]
HANNAH KERMODE - 23 JUL 1843 Lonan
JAMES KERMODE - 14 SEP 1845 Lonan
JOSEPH KERMODE - 09 JUL 1854 Lonan
 
And WILLIAM, also listed in 1851, is probably son of Daniel Kermode and Margaret Killip christened 6 NOV 1831, Lonan

Daniel and Margaret married 19 AUG 1823 in Lonan.  A Margaret Kermode is listed in Brian Lawsons's burial index as buried Lonan on 24 Nov 1835.  Other children to the marriage being:
ANN KERMODE - 06 NOV 1825 Lonan
JOHN KERMODE - 13 JUL 1828 Lonan [could be your John?]
THOMAS KERMODE - 04 MAY 1834 Lonan

Ah... now that I have posted all that info I think there might be a more likely candidate.    Here are the 1851 census details:

Catherine Faragher, Wife, Mar, 54, Lonan
William Kermode, Wife's son, Un, 22, Mining labourer, Lonan
Daniel Kermode, Wife's son, Un, 10, Scholar, Lonan

Daniel could be the son of a Thomas Kermode and Catherine ? christened 25 Oct 1840, Lonan, but can't find a match for William.

There is a further possibility in 1851 of Daniel Cormode b abt 1838 in Andreas to William and Jane (there is a brother John b abt 1842) but the father is a farmer.

Once the 1841 censuses become available I would be happy to check on any of these Kermode families.  Or you could ask for an 1841 census look-up from: http://www.isle-of-man.com/cgi-bin/interests/genealogy/bulletin/index.pl

There may be a something in the latest post 19:56:10.
Can you check the 1861 census for this family as Daniel was emigrating about that time.
In case there are any naming practices in IOM, Daniel named his three children, Alice Isabella, Alfred Adolphus and George William.

Can't see Daniel or William in 1861 IOM or England/Wales/ChannelIslands.

I did find a Daniel Kermode (trasncribed as Rirmade) in Everton, Lancashire in 1861 but think he may be the son of Daniel and Eleanor as listed in the first post.  He is living as a boarder and working as a Joiner.  His place of birth is listed as Laxey and he is 24.

I think 1841 census may shed some light as we should be able to find Daniel s/o Catherine's father, but it won't be available for a while (though supposedly this year sometime).

Soooo, we have an increasing possibility that we have something here.

The marriage details of Catherine Faragher to ? Kermode may be of value as will the 1841 census.  If you can bear this request in mind I would appreciate it.

In the meantime I'll pass on to my wife's relatives (the Kermodes) progress so far.
