Lost Grandfather
« on: Tuesday 21 February 06 14:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for anyone related to Joseph Fitzimmons and can shed light on his side of the family.  He died on 20/10/1984.  He was in the army from 17th October 1934 and he was a Sergeant.  Can anyone help?

have you got a copy of his death certificate? This will tell you his date of birth, and if he died in Scotland rather than England or Wales it will tell you the names of his parents. Then you can start working back.

See http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/ for details of getting a post-1954 death certificate.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
