HERPE/De Ste Croix/Lihou
« on: Tuesday 21 February 06 20:19 GMT (UK) »

Evening all.

I am drawing a bit of a blank researching my family with the names from the subject bar.

My grandfather - Adolphus L HERPE married Maud F de Ste Croix(from Jersey) 1933.  Then lived in Guernsey - St Peter Port.  They had 4 children and Maud and children were evacuated 1940.

Adolphus father was of the same name and their were several sibling- Rene, Marcelle, Henri, Charlie, George, Anselme, Andre, Cyrille and Louis - I have scant information about their lives.

Maud de Ste Croix came from Jersey -  her father: William S and her mother Maud E LIHOU (married c1900).

This is where I draw a blank.

Anyone can offer any pointers, help etc would be gratefully received.

Ok - update.

I have managed to trace my ancestors back to France.

They must have arrived in Guernsey somewhere between 1891 and 1901, living in Burnt Land St Peter Port.

Jean and Jeanne Herpe born c 1855 with their children Adolph, Eve and Charles.  (Adolphe being my great grandfather - see above post).  He married Louise Francoise Bourgain and they had nine children.

This is where I get really stumped because I have no idea how to trace these relatives any further andhow to research in France.  Any one know how to please?

Also any ideas as to what a "stone cracker" was?

Thanks

I believe tracing relatives from France if difficult, but I know one contact who has helped others with relations from Normandy.

Try contacting Aurelie, at -

Tel : (00 44 1534) 280 110

She will probably be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck!
