1861 & 1871 Census - JOWETT, Leeds.
« on: Wednesday 29 September 04 14:12 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find ELIZABETH JOWETT in these censuses please?

She was age 15 in the 1851 census, so would be born about 1836, living at 30 Mill St., Leeds.   Her mother died in 1853 and her father (Joseph) re-married (Sarah) in 1855, at which time his address was Oxford St., Leeds.   I know Elizabeth was still alive in 1877 because a profile written about her father in that year mentions that "his first wife died in 1853 leaving him with two sons and four daughters, who still survive", but I cannot seem to track her down!

Many thanks.

Ji Jill,

Are you saying that Elizabeth Jowett is her birth name?

Or did she marry and if so do you know as to whom?

And are you saying she was born in the leeds area?

Please help others & myself to help you.

One more thing, who were her birth parents?

Wendy

Hi Winston,

I'm sorry - didn't make myself very clear there!

Yes, Elizabeth Jowett was her birth name.   Her parents were Joseph & Ann Jowett - Ann died and then Joseph married (I think) her sister, Sarah.

I don't know whether Elizabeth married or not but she was born at 30 Mill Street, Leeds.

Her father moved from Mill Street to Oxford Street and eventually (1881 census) to Sunny Bank Street, all in Leeds.

Hope this is better!  Thanks again.
