most people get interested (like myself) when its to late, there is no one left to ask the questions we need to ask to make it easier,
thats my regret it would be so much easier
oh well i will have to wait untill a cure is found
i hope they are not anywhere near finding it though

Hello Geoff,

At least the reply from your second cousin was polite.

My cousin phoned someone with the same unusual surname.  He was the last example of it living in the town the family came from.

"I'm not interested and there's no money to be had so you needn't bother"  and the phone put down was the response he got!

Best wishes,

Selina

Geoff, I can empathise.... a newly found cousin of mine - who professed to be interested - totally denied my research because it disproved his relationship with somebody famous.

Well, they say ignorance is bliss  ;)

Found in an old book   :)

Genealogy
Genealogy begins as an interest,
Becomes a hobby;
Continues as an avocation,
Takes over as an obsession,
And in its last stages,
Is an incurable disease.

My hubby, bless his big woolen socks, bought me a laptop for Christmas so I had my own computer for my Family Research. I think he was sick of walking into  the office and finding me searching through the Internet for people, printing photos and generally scanning through my family tree program in case I put some detail in the wrong place.

I am now sat in a little corner of the office that started off with one desk and a small shelf and is now 2 desks, 5 shelves and 2 filing cabinets. All the business paperwork is under the business computer in boxes. The other business computer is balanced on a small table in another corner. I also have the comfiest seat as I am in  here more than anyone else.

As for the illness - a bit like depression really. Mood swings, temper tantrums, don't want to move away from the computer some days (incase you miss an email from another researcher with a link to your tree), lack of appetite (more like no time to eat as you are onto something), insomnia (can't leave the computer for same reasons as lack of appetite). You just want to be left alone don't you?  Who are those strange children running around? Why are they calling you Mum or Dad? Do they belong to you? Better check the Family tree to see if you have their photo on there then you will know who they are.

Better not show hubby the 1st post on this subject though. He is already sure I am ill in some way and don't want to give him a reason to say I need some rest away for a few days (unless they have wireless and I can take the laptop!) Mind you we are going to Germany for 2 weeks and I am giving up my handbag as hand luggage and taking this with me - you never know, I might find something or someone over there

Carol

PS Do you think I might have a more advanced case of Genealogy disease?
