Census Lookup for Turley family - Shotts/Holytown

I am looking for Turley family who came from Shotts and then settled Holytown.

Andrew Turley married Jane
their children Jane, Ellen, Stephen, Mary

If any one can help me find them pn any of the census it would appreciated.

Do you have any approximate dates .... there are several Turleys in the 1851 index for Lanarkshire county although there is no Andrew listed.

Hi Robert

Thanks for your reply.  I have no dates but I do know that he was a miner and would have moved around Lanarkshire for work.   Although he settled in Holytown he may not be on that census but on later ones.   The names I gave are correct but there also may be other children!!!    I am not sure but I was told by a family great aunt that he was born in Douglas around 1840?? I have not been able to find out if this is correct.

As I am just a beginner - Can you tell me how do I find out this information and any census/births/marriages/deaths information?

I would appreciate your advice and help.

I think I may have found Andrew ... slightly different spelling and living in Douglas at the time of the 1851 census.

Andrew TURRLEY aged 33 born New Monkland
Agnes Turrley aged 28 born Carnwath
Andrew Turrley aged 6 born Douglas birth date around 1845
Stephen Turrley aged 4 born Douglas
Isabella Turrley aged 1 born Douglas

you could also try the Scotlands People site which is a pay site at
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/index.aspx   this also has the later census up to 1901. This is probably the best place to find young Andrews marriage details

My wife Maggie maiden name was Turleyborn in Lesmahagow, her gggrandfather was Stephen Turley b 1847 he was your Andrews b 1845 brother. Andrew married Jane Findlay in May 1867.
Stephen and Andrews parents were Andrew Turley and Agnes Pollock.
We have been searching the Turleys for 3 years now.
