Alfred Brown and Maria Oliver
« on: Wednesday 22 February 06 17:31 GMT (UK) »
I am quite new to rootschat and I have a lot of my family history in another county but I have found a handful of people who lived in Bedfordshire so I was wondering whether anyone could help me.

The particular family I am looking at at the moment are Alfred Brown and Maria Oliver who married (I believe) on the 4th September 1850 in Maulden (where I found that information I can't remember possibly family search website).  I am searching for any children they had.  My gt gt grandad was John and from what I can ascertain he was the eldest, I have found a Julia and Alfred in the 1861 census but I can't find Alfred or Maria in the 1881 census.  Where can I look next to find any other children as I don't have access to the other censuses (other than 1901)

Thank you so much for that info.  Why would Maria be in a workhouse when Alfred was at home looking after the children?

I have no idea - especially as all the children, including Martha, worked. Unlike many others, she wasn't down as idiot nor anything. Could she have been ill? It seems both parents are dead by 1881, with little Rosa in the workhouse  too >:(

Oh how sad, this is the first time I have discovered any family member in a workhouse, I wonder why Rosa didn't go and live with any brothers or sisters?
