1871 Cenus FREDERICK E WOOD/TARROWAY
« on: Wednesday 22 February 06 17:35 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for Frederick E Wood born about 1846 in Hungary

He is living in Hillside House, Beaumont, St Peters, Jersey in 1861

Mother is Amelia Wood (born in about 1826 in Surrey)

She married Richard Tarraway so is Amelia Tarraway in the 1861 Census

Father was Francis W Wood (born about 1824 in Surrey)

The family move to Llanwenog, Cardiganshire, Wales and are there during the 1871 Census.

BUT NOT FREDERICK

Did he stay on Jersey??

Hope someone can help me

Thank you

Hiya

Have had a look on 1871 census but can't find him. I suppose he would have been 25-ish by then so could have moved elsewhere, or even died. Do you know any more details about him?

Regards

Hello Rowena,

I have no further information about Frederick Wood except for the mention in the 1861 Jersey census. I suppose he decided not to move with the family to Wales and moved elsewhere. Also, he could have died between 1861 and 1871?

Thanks so much for your help. I will continue to find out about the Wood/Tarraway family. The furthest back I can go is the birth of Amelia (Frederick's mother) in 1826 approx. If I knew her maiden name, I could go back more.

Thanks so much

Rhian

Hi again Rhian

Been thinking more about Frederick. I know this sounds a stupid question but is he actually Frederick?! Looking at the original census image, it looks like it might say Frs which could be short for Francis.

Then I found this:

1851 CENSUS
?Chiswick Square
Maria W. Wood  b.1801  Newington, Surrey  Head   Fund Holder
Maria M. Wood b.1829 Ewell, Surrey  Daughter    Fund holder
FRANCIS WOOD b.1847  British Subject, Hungary  Grandson
Ann Rhomer b.1826 London, Middlesex  Servant

Shambrook - Devon, Monmouthshire, Herefordshire
Le Vesconte - Jersey, Monmouthshire, Bristol
Shults - London, Surrey, Essex, Middlesex
Clark - London, Surrey, Middlesex
Neasmith - London, Surrey, Middlesex
Sheppard - Dorset

You're absoloutely right! It is Francis, because his father's name was also Francis. I've been looking for the wrong name!!!!

He was born in Hungary so this must be him. The rest of the family are in London in 1851 so Francis is staying with his Granmother and aunt and the other family members are with a different relative.

Thanks so much.

I also now have another generation, the Grandmother Maria W Wood.

I should be able to track him down from 1861 onwards now since I have his proper name.

Excellent!!!

Rhian

Can I just check about your relative?

Are you related to Francis Edward wood born in 1846 in Hungary.

His father was Francis William Wood born 1824 and his mother was Amelia A.M. born in 1826.
