1891 Census - John Gibson - Hedon - COMPLETED WITH SPECIAL THANKS TO LANCS.FOX
« on: Wednesday 22 February 06 23:13 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please do lookup on 1891 census for John Gibson married to Ellen Ann.  Children Arthur, Robert, Elsie and George.  I am wondering if there are any further children as Ellen is John's second wife.

With many thanks.

Zephyr

Hi Zephyr,

Here is John's son Robert Gibson in 1891 at Hedon:-

1891 Census

Magdalen Gate, Hedon, Yorkshire

Robert Gibson - Boarder - unm. - 21 - General Labourer - b. Yorks., Hedon

Ref:  RG12 / 3921 / ED1 / f.10 / p.13

He was living in the household of George and Jane Johnson, their son, four grandchildren and one other boarder.  Full details of the entry can be supplied if you so wish.

I'll look out where Arthur was shortly.

Richard

Hi Lancs.Fox

That has been very helpful indeed.  I have Gertrude from 1901 census but there is no mention of Alfred.  He must have left home by then so thank you for filling in a little bit more of my tree.

With many thanks for information provided.

Best wishes.

Hi Zephyr,

Back again.

I fear it might be worse that leaving home for Alfred Gibson as I have found the following death register entry:-

Death - Alfred Gibson - Age 15 - Sculcoates - 1897 December Quarter - vol. 9d - p. 116

Sculcoates is the registration district covering Hedon so the location fits as does the age.

I haven't been able to locate Arthur W. Gibson yet in 1891 - I hope that he hasn't met the same possible fate as his younger brother.

Richard

Hello Lancs.Fox

You beat me to it!  I have just dug out my booklet on Monumental Inscriptions at St Augustine's Church, Hedon.  There is an Alfred Gibson died 1897 aged 15 - but no Arthur - I may yet be in luck!!  I had forgotten I had the booklet and I have also found Margaret Gibson's death (John's first wife) which gives her maiden name and also that of her mother so I am doing very well this evening.

Thank you for all the trouble you are taking.  It is much appreciated.

With best wishes.

Hi Zephyr,

That is good news - the progress in your research - not Alfred's death of course.

I'll keep on looking for Arthur in 1901: he must be there somewhere.

Do you need any census look-ups for Margaret's birth family?  If so drop me a pm and I'll be pleased to help.

Best wishes,

Richard

Hi again Zephyr,

At last - I've found Arthur in 1901, but not where I expected him!

1901 Census

Royton House, Hammersmith, London

Arthur Gibson - Paying Guest - unm. - 33 - Mineral Water Bottler - b. Yorks., Heddon (sic)

Ref:  RG13 / 52 / ED Royton House / f. 75 / p.6

The occupants of Royton House are set out on 'Institution' sheets and there were over 600 residents there on census night.

Best wishes,

Richard

Hi Lancs.Fox

Your'e certainly turning up trumps for me!!  Arthur had a cousin George Gibson.  On 1901 census he is 39 living in York and is ...  Working Foreman Mineral Water Bottler.  I didn't realise bottled water had been so popular back then!  I think that surely confirms that the Arthur you have found is definitely mine - obviously keeping it in the family.

Will drop you a pm re Margaret's family - it's very kind of you to offer to help.

With many many thanks.
