The question of a photograph without visiting the cemetery had never really occurred to me before, probably because I don't like ask people to go out of their way, although I suppose I should have known better about Rootschatters, I know I will go out of my way for people if I'm able, so suppose I should credit others with the same generosity.

I wouldn't have thought of asking the CWGC themselves thinking that they probably have enough to do and if everybody asked they would be inundated.with requests, but I have written to ask them if they have that sort of facility available for which I'd be willing to pay - it might be that the "men on site" don't even have suitable cameras, I don't assume.

In view of comments made above I list below the details.

Rheinberg War Cemetery
Grave Reference- 8. A. 19

Flying Officer Harry William Larkins (Pilot)
Service No. 122145
Date of Death - 6/12/1942
Regiment - Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Unit - 115 Squadron
Nationality - United Kingdom
Additional Information - Son of Charles Thomas James Larkins and Mary Ann Alice Larkins, of Hackney, London

There is a plan of the Cemetery http://www.cwgc.org/search/cemetery_plans.aspx?cemetery=2002800&mode=1 but it seems that from the entrance the first blocks you pass on the left hand side is Number 2, then Block Number 1 (at the side of the Stone of Remembrance) and then the next block is Number 8 the nearest row of which is A and the numbering starts from 1 up to 25.

and if any kindly Rootschatter was nearby and could take a photograph, (also that of the Stone of Remembrance) I would be everlastingly grateful.  I will also keep you informed if the CWGC can do this for enquirers.

You've started something now Ken  ;D ;D

Mary,
I hope you have some good news from the CWGC.

Rehinberg would be on our route to my daughters, well not far off, but we had thought of flying over.
But I will remember, if we do drive and send you a pm, happy to help if I can.

Unfortunately its 2 hrs away from my daughter otherwise I'd ask her to do it.(and I'm sure she would)

He certainly has!!!!!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all have photographs of our war graves.  My Great Uncle is buried in Jerusalem......don't think I will be able to get a photo of that :(

I'm looking forward to hear what the CWGC have to say following Mary's enquiry.

Hi folks

In my case the photos were taken by one of the CWGC directors on a visit to the grave sites in Sri Lanka - the problem was they took nearly a year and a half from my original request to getting them  :'(, but now they were worth the wait  :).

My original request was for information on how to get a photo, they emailed back saying they do a free photo service for family members and sent a form to me. They also indicated which I had no problem with was a donation to the CWGC.

The only downside was the time it could take "there words", this being I suppose being in this part of Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tigers.

The CWGC website has changed since I sent my request, but all I did was email customer service and that set the ball rolling.

I hope all of you have the same success as I did.

Regards
Ken

Hi Jan

If it is a War Grave site I dont see any reason for not getting a photo of his grave
