Islington address
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 08:18 GMT (UK) »
I am researching Woodwards from Tredegar in South Wales. I have found my G Grandfather's oldest sister on the 1891 census working as a servant for 4 sisters and their elderly aunt - names as follows:

99 Petherton Road, Islington

Eliza Southall (Head) aged 52  Own means  b.Lambeth
Kate  "  aged 43
Hannah  aged 41
Emily aged 39
Elizabeth Pickard (aunt)aged 76
Sarah A Woodward  aged 28 - domestic servant b Tredegar

I went on to look on the 1901 census to see if she was still there and I can't find the address - Petherton Road only goes up to about number 66.  Where did it go?

I also can't find any of the Southall sisters - Did they all get married or die?

The Southall sisters Eliza, Hannah and Emily are living at 43 Lordship Park Stoke Newington on the 1901 census RG13 204 folio 77.
Their servant is 18 year old Alise Lambert.

At 99 Petherton Road is Lucretia Kitts and her daughter RG13 196 folio 59

Thanks - don't know why none of my searches could bring up the names or addresses!

Now I have to find out what happened to Sarah.

ooh thank you!

I was going to do that later...had to go and be a bit domestic first!

Sarah (and my G Grandad William) were part of an enormous family and I've managed to track down two sets of descendants so far...now we're all trying to find the lot.

I can only assume Eranthine and Letitia were either names from HIS family or fancy ones she picked up in London!  Definately not the usual Woodward fare...every generation in each of the branches has so far had the same names...perhaps Sarah wanted to be different!

I hope that I did not take away your pleasure in searching.
I was interested as my first wife(now dead for many years) came from Tredegar and I know this part of the world very well.

Not at all...there's always another relative to look for!

Sarah seems to have done very well for herself...I imagine my Woodwards were very poor (with 17 kids to feed!) - their father was an iron worker so marrying the eldest off to a butcher must have been a relief!  I'm having great fun trying to track down where they all went!
